Fitness tracker Christmas 2016 could bump up insurance premiums and leak personal data on the dark web

For all you Fitbit and health tracker device users, this is an article you may want to read.  Of course we all know that health trackers gather data about your vital statistics, and then you transfer them to an app on your mobile device or your computer.  But I was unaware just how much personal info it might be tracking as well.

And the really scary part of it…your personal info and medical stats COULD be sold to insurance companies, who then COULD use it to red flag you and/or either deny you insurance, and/or raise your premiums.

Not saying that this has actually occurred, but it is curious enough that more and more tech folks are beginning to discuss it.

If you have thoughts, opinions, or stories on how your health tracker is used, please feel free to comment on it below.
